CHILDREN HATE READING OUT LOUD TO THEIR PARENTS, AND I DON'T BLAME THEM

Question

We have 3 boys, ages 7, 2 and 2 months. Our 7-year-old son has shown patterns of lying and gaslighting. It's very concerning. For example, he was reluctantly reading out loud at bedtime while his 2-year-old brother was sleeping, and I was nursing the 2-month-old. He read a partial sentence, turned the page and started a new sentence. He saw me look up to question and immediately said: "this is why I don't like (brand name of books). They never make sense." (Making an excuse) And started a new sentence. I said: "what was the last part of that page? Did you skip a page?" And he responded with "no, what do you mean?" And I said: "look at the page numbers". He goes "oh I didn't realize I did that." And then I said "Son, you never skip pages. Please tell the truth." He said: "if I l say that then YOU are making ME lie." And then he convinced me he didn't lie. (Grandma has a tendency to lie and stick to her guns & gaslight, too. I am an empath and brutally honest, complete opposite.)
